Kiwanians decorated the Lady Liberty float on July 3 for Chatham Fireman's Independence Day Parade

Group of Chatham-Madison Kiwanis volunteers who decorated the Lady Liberty float for the Annual Chatham Fireman's Independence Day Parade. Chatham Main donated the flat bed truck used to construct the float. The weather threatening, but heavy rains held off until the work was finished. However, temperature  was very hot.

Ron got into the picture, taken by Karen. It was nice to sit for a few minutes.

The decorated float looked very nice with the plants donated by Coviellos of Madison. Humidity was really high.

Annual Kiwanis-Rotary Picnic July 1, 2014

On July 1, 2014 the Annual Chatham Kiwanis -Rotary picnic was held at the home of the Kiwanis President. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Kiwanis June 24 Meeting Program: Tom Fountain, CTO of Pneuron Corporation, spoke about Entrepreneurial Accelerators.

Tom made reference to a book titled “The World is Flat” written by Tom Friedman, foreign affairs columnist for the New York Times. The book shows how technology changes in the late 80s and the 90s made it much easier to conduct business. Tom also handed out a sheet showing how Ideas/Markets, Talent, Capital and Resources make up Entrepreneurial Accelerators.

Tom gave a fascinating description of how business is conducted today using advanced technology. After an active Question and Answer session, the audience enthusiastically applauded this enlightening and entertaining presentation.

Kiwanis Annual Stanley Park Picnic on June 17, 2014

Members of Chatham-Madison Kiwanis Club enjoyed the annual picnic held at the Stanley Park in Chatham Borough next to the Passaic River. The event was held on June 17 in warm weather.

Kiwanis June 10 Meeting Program: Dan RosenHanst, Volunteer Director, Bridges spoke on "Bridges, its founding and purpose”.

Dan RosenHanst, Volunteer Director, Bridges (left in photo was introduced by Nancy Holt (right) at the June 10, 2014 Kiwanis luncheon meeting at Charlie Brown’s Restaurant. Dan gave an inspiring talk on Bridges, its founding and purpose.

Founded in 1988, Bridges reaches out to the homeless in New York City, Newark, Irvington, and Summit, New Jersey every week.  Over 1,500 volunteers each year help deliver 100,000 meals, seasonal clothing, and necessities without question and with genuine respect.

2014 Annual Chatham High School Kiwanis Scholarship Winners Announced

Year 2014 Chatham Kiwanis Scholarship winners Keri Cronin (left) and Samantha O’Brien (right) were announced by Kiwanis President John Eyre at the May 27 breakfast meeting held at Charlie Brown’s. They will also be recognized at the June 20 CHS graduation ceremony as this year’s winners of $8,000 Kiwanis Chatham High School scholarships. Scholarship winners receive $2,000 per year for four years.

Kiwanis June 3 Meeting Program: Dr. Marlys Howarth, D.O. of Summit Medical Group gave a presentation on "How to get the most out of your doctor's appointment".

She told the audience “How to get the most out of your doctor’s appointment”. May 27 Kiwanis Meeting Program: Rebecca Abenante and Catherine Owens from Morristown Medical Center spoke about Services for older adults at Morristown Medical Center.

Rebecca Abenante (left in photo) and Catherine Owens (right) from Morristown Medical Center talked about the new Geriatric Assessment Center (a work in progress on South Street in Morristown) and the Geriatric Emergency Department (main hospital). Rebecca is the Healthy Aging Coordinator and Catherine is the Geriatric Assessment Center Social Worker at Morristown Medical Center. Kiwanis April 8 Program: Lou Nisivoccial spoke about The 200 Club of Morris County.

Lou Nisivoccial (left in photo) spoke on the 200 Club of Morris County at the April 8 meeting of Kiwanis held at Charlie Brown’s in Chatham Township.  On the right in the photo is Mary Anne Maloney, past president of the club.

The club is “Serving Those Who Put their Lives On The Line For Others.” Members of the club donate $200 per year. The funds help spouses and dependents of public safety officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.

Kiwanis April 1 Meeting: Joan Thuebel spoke on her recent trip to Cuba

Joan Thuebel (right in photo) gave her impressions of Cuba from her recent Tauck tour of the island nation. She was introduced by Mary Anne Maloney (left in photo). The audience was captured by her detailed narrative of the impoverished conditions in that Communist country.  After an active Q&A, the audience applauded enthusiastically.

Kitchen workers were all smiles preparing carry-out meals.

Diners were greeted at the Welcome Table.

Kiwanis March 25 Meeting Program: Mary Curoski and Greer Luce spoke on Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey, Caring for the Caregiver & VNA Homecare Programs

Mary Curoski (left in photo) gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey at the March 25 Kiwanis meeting. Greer Luce (right in photo) helped in the presentation and also gave the audience literature describing Comprehensive Home Care Services, Compassionate Hospice Care, and Caregiver Support Programs. This VNA serves a large area in Northern New Jersey. Offices are located at 175 South Street, Morristown, NJ.

Kiwanis March 18 Meeting Program: Judy McGrath, ECLC Educator of the Year, spoke about things she is doing.

Judy McGrath, left in photo, spoke to Kiwanis at the March 18 meeting. On the right in the photo is John Eyre, President of Kiwanis. Judy, who has been at ECLC for 25 years, spoke to the club about the things going on at ECLC of New Jersey in Chatham. This is the 25th anniversary of ECLC, which is a school for learning disadvantaged children. She works with graduates of ECLC, helping them to move on in their lives. There are activities for graduates, like dances, alumni day, classes, etc. There are over 70 graduates in the PRIDE program, where they can be active in various projects. There is also CPS, Community Personnel Services, which provides job coaching in their last year before graduating. In Judy’s class they start taking them out in September, looking at different job sites, filling out resumes, getting them used to different employers. She works with them all year and they are prepared at graduation to find a job and start working.
